Francophone Mobility Program Expansion
On June 15, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced the expansion of the Francophone Mobility Program. Originally, the program was intended for highly skilled French-speaking temporary foreign workers. Now it is available for all occupations except jobs in primary agriculture.
Language Proficiency Requirements
The program has revised the French language proficiency criteria for work permit applicants. Candidates must now show a language proficiency level of 5 (previously level 7) in oral comprehension and oral expression to be eligible for the program.
Proof of Language Proficiency
Applicants must provide evidence of their French language proficiency. This can include any of the following;

Supporting Canadian Population Growth

Program History
The Francophone Mobility Program was originally launched in 2016. It was meant to assist employers in recruiting highly skilled French-speaking workers from around the globe, specifically for communities outside of Quebec.
Work Permits Issued
Between 2019 and 2021, Canada issued approximately 1,900 work permits and extensions annually under the Francophone Mobility Program. These numbers show its relevance and popularity among employers and applicants.
Transition to Permanent Residence
From June 2016 to December 2020, 1,080 out of 5,700 temporary work permit holders under the Francophone Mobility Program successfully transitioned to permanent residence.
Professional Sector Focus
Nearly two-thirds of applicants to the Francophone Mobility Program work in professional sectors that require post-secondary or apprenticeship training ranging from six months to two years, contributing to the development of a skilled workforce in Francophone communities.
