EXPRESS ENTRY

Express Entry is an online platform the Canadian government uses to streamline applications from skilled workers who want to move to Canada and become permanent residents. It is primarily for individuals with college or university degrees, relevant work experience, and a reasonable ability to speak English and/or French. To be eligible for express entry you need to meet the requirements of one of the three following programs:

THE EXPRESS ENTRY APPLICATION PROCESS

If you’re interested in applying via Express Entry, it’s a two-step process. First, you’ll need to create a profile online. Here’s what you’ll need for that:

Test results proving your language skills
A report that shows how your education compares to Canadian standards
A passport or similar travel document

After that, if you’re invited to apply for permanent residence, you’ll need to submit more information, including reference letters, more identification documents, proof of no criminal history, and a medical exam report.

IDEAL EXPRESS ENTRY CANDIDATE

Even if you have these, there’s no guarantee you’ll be invited to apply for permanent residence. The system gives preference to applicants with stronger profiles. Generally, to be a good candidate for Express Entry, you should:

Have a minimum of one year of full-time work experience (or equivalent part-time) in a skilled job within the last ten years

Score at least nine on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) for either English or French, proven by an approved language test

Have post-secondary education that meets Canadian standards, as documented by an Education Credential Assessment

Costs Involved

Applying through Express Entry costs around $2,300 CAD for a single person or about $4,500 CAD for a couple. This includes various fees for language tests, education credential assessments, biometrics, government charges, medical exams, and police clearance certificates.

Job Offer Requirement

Having a job offer can boost your chances, but it’s not a requirement for Express Entry. But if you do have a job offer, you could get up to 200 additional points.

Processing Time

The Express Entry process may take around six months, but it could be longer. Your profile will stay active for 12 months. If you’re not invited to apply during that time, you can re-submit your profile.

Scoring System

Express Entry uses a system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank applicants. Factors like your age, education level, language skills, work experience, and connections to Canada can all affect your CRS score.

Increasing Your Score

You can improve your CRS score by retaking language tests like IELTS, getting more work experience, maximizing spousal points, securing a job offer, getting a provincial nomination, or furthering your education.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Ideal Express Entry applicants are typically under 30 years old, hold a bachelor’s degrees or a master’s degree, have strong English or French language skills, and at least three years of relevant work experience. Other factors like being bilingual, having Canadian work or educational experience, having a Canadian sibling, having a job offer in Canada, or getting a provincial nomination can further enhance your profile. You do not need to have all of these items to be eligible, these factors just contribute to high points scores.

Can you review my application for me during a consult?

No, unfortunately, our consult service does not include application reviewing. Instead, our consults are intended to provide you with initial advice and guidance on the immigration opportunities available to you.

How long are consultations?

Typically, consultations last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of your case and the questions you have. However, we book our consultations for 60 minutes to ensure that we have ample time to discuss all aspects of your case.

If we need more than 60 minutes to address all of your questions and concerns, that’s not a problem! We want you to leave the consultation feeling confident and well-informed about your eligibility and the way forward.

Can my consult be virtual?

Yes, all of our consultations are currently virtual. You will receive a link to your video call after booking.

What happens during consultation?

During a consultation, you will meet with our senior immigration consultant Joe Greenholtz over video chat. He will review your case and assess your eligibility for all immigration routes. You will have the opportunity to discuss your goals and concerns, ask questions, and receive guidance on your application.

What happens after a consult ?

After the consult, you will be provided with a roadmap outlining the route decided upon during your consult and the steps that you need to take to get there. You can then use this to complete your application by yourself, or you can choose for us to do the work for you and sign up for one of our services.
