Breaking News: IRCC Announces Biometrics Collection and Visit to Work Policies for Immigration Applicants

Recent Immigration Updates: Biometrics Collection and Visit to Work Policies

The Canadian government has announced recent updates regarding its immigration policies. These updates include the collection of biometric information and new policies for foreign nationals who are already in Canada to work while their application for permanent residency is being processed.

Biometrics Collection in Canada:

Starting on December 1, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin collecting biometric information from permanent resident applicants and some temporary resident applicants who are already in Canada. This biometric information includes fingerprints, photographs, and digital signatures, and the purpose of collecting this information is to verify the identity of the applicants and prevent identity fraud. The biometric collection will be done at one of the 58 designated Service Canada locations across the country. This is an important step towards ensuring the integrity and security of the immigration system in Canada.

Visit to Work Policies:

On February 16, 2021, the Canadian government announced new policies to make it easier for foreign nationals who are already in Canada to work while their application for permanent residency is being processed. The policy allows eligible foreign nationals to apply for an open work permit that is valid for up to 18 months. To be eligible for the public policy, applicants must have submitted an application for permanent residency under one of the following programs: Express Entry (Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, or Canadian Experience Class), Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), or Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds. These policies are designed to support the Canadian economy by providing more options for foreign nationals to work while their permanent residency application is being processed.

What Does This Mean?

The Canadian government’s recent updates to its immigration policies are a positive step towards strengthening the country’s immigration system and supporting the economy. The biometrics collection will ensure the accuracy and integrity of the system, while the new visit-to-work policies will provide more opportunities for foreign nationals to contribute to the Canadian economy. These policies reflect the Canadian government’s commitment to immigration and its importance in maintaining a diverse and prosperous society.
